Explain	Create Vokis with definitions of words
Restate	Students write personal definitions with Voki. Visuwords can help students see synonyms to restate the definition
Show	Show connections between words (connotations, antonyms) with Visuwords Find images for showing words with PechaFlickr, a Google image search
Discuss	Students can have conversations about the different clusters for words using Visuwords Crocodot and Padlet could be used for students to have a conversation about the meaning of words
Refine and Reflect	Visuwords helps students see subtle definitions with words and multiple meaning words. Students can practice vocabulary words using Quizlet and Study Blue.  Study Blue seems more basic than Quizlet. Spelling City has an academic vocabulary practice activity to help them practice Students can practice identifying academic vocabulary in sentences. Students can unscramble sentences to make complete sentences.
Apply	Students can write original sentences with Voki Students can write sentences with vocabulary words and post to an online bulletin board

• creates linguistic maps of words
• shows definitions, but you can't copy the definitions
• shows synonyms and antonyms
• some word connections may be inappropriate

 

Wordnik

• compiles definitions from multiple sources
• includes examples from authentic texts
• includes word etymologies
• synonyms, antonyms, hypernyms, same context
• word map
• has word of the day and random word features
